Genie in a Bottle
Genie in a Bottle
Christina Aguilera
I feel like I’ve been locked up tight
For a century of lonely nights
Waiting for someone to release me
You’re lickin’ your lips
And blowing kisses my way
But that don’t mean I’m gonna give it away
Baby, baby, baby (Baby baby baby)
Ooh, my body’s sayin’ let’s go
Ooh, but my heart is sayin’ no
If you wanna be with me
Baby there’s a price to pay
I’m a genie in a bottle
You gotta rub me the right way
If you wanna be with me
I can make your wish come true
You gotta make a big impression (Oh yeah)
Gotta like what you do
(I’m a genie in a bottle baby
Gotta rub me the right way honey
I’m a genie in a bottle baby
Come come, come on and let me out)
The music’s fading and the lights down low
Just one more dance and then we’re good to go
Waiting for someone
Who needs me
Hormones racing at the speed of light
But that don’t mean it’s gotta be tonight
Baby, baby, baby (Baby baby baby)
Ooh, my body’s sayin’ let’s go
Ooh, but my heart is sayin’ no (but my heart is sayin’ no)
Dear Genie in a Bottle,
Your perspective seems to be that, as you date, you enjoy and prefer being the evaluator rather than worrying about what the other person thinks of you. You sound comfortable in who you are, and clear about what you want. You are poised to discern who gets your energy and heart. Kudos to you! It takes introspection and confidence to hold out for that genuine connection.
I encourage you to be mindful with your communication. “You gotta rub me the right way” is a fabulous personal mantra, but the way you are saying it out loud could potentially be misconstrued – especially if heard the wrong way by a person with an alternative agenda. It’s easy to sexualize the way you are saying it. Now, if you are looking for a quick and sexy physical relationship, then go ahead and be provocative! If you are looking for the magic of a deeper connection however, you may want to keep these words in the bottle a little longer.
In addition to being sexually suggestive, you may also be suggesting that this prospective partner is on trial. Most people do not like feeling that they are on trial when it comes to relationships, even though we know instinctively that everything is conditional as we first get to know someone. Overtly emphasizing your conditions may signal insecurity in the same way as expressing a premature commitment. Confidence is best expressed by a recognition that you feeling grounded and happy while taking things one, moment, one reveal at a time.
To be continued,
Spencer
